Munich's Botanical Garden was founded in 1812 and moved to its current location, next to Nymphenburg Palace, in 1914. The 50 acre site holds around 14,000 species and also has an extensive collection of greenhouses.
The building pictured here is the site of the Bavarian State Botany Collection - a world renowned research institute - and houses a herbarium holding 3 million dried plant specimens from around the world.

Fabulous building. I wonder what/who it was originally built for.
What an excellent photograph. I feel as if I'm experiencing this botanical garden with all of my senses, just by looking at your image. Well done!
Thanks.
Eamon, I think it was always the home for the Research Insitute. It was purpose built as part of the development of the Gardens.
