The Pinakothek Der Moderne has featured before, I think. This is a different view of the museum taken at night under illumination. This was another controversial building, partly becuase of the cost, and partly because of the very modern and spare design which is quite unusual in Munich.

Alte
The Alte Pinakothek, designed by Court architect Leo Von Klenze and opened in 1836, was built to house the art collection of the ruling Wittelsbach family. 'Alte' refers to the paintings rather than the building - the museum houses art from the 13th century to the 18th century.The building was badly damaged during the Second World War, though the collection was safely in storage. When the building was reconstructed after the war the architect, Hans Döllgast, deliberately left the reconstructed elements in an unfinished state. In this image the original elements are on the right and the reconstructed elements on the left.

Moderne
The Pinakothek Der Moderne is one of the three Pinakotheken at the heart of Munich's museum district. This museum opened in 2002 and hosts four collections in art, design, architecture and works on paper.The building itself is striking rather than beautiful and has been a challenge to photograph - for me at least. This speculative effort of the main entrance area, taken while lying down and converted to black and white, produced my best image yet of the museum.
