The Hofgarten, as you might expect in a formal garden, is very well kept. One down side to this is that plants are pulled up and replaced even when they are still in healthy bloom. I was walking through the Hofgarten one day and came across a group of workers digging up these beautifel plants and dumping them in the back of a truck to be taken off foe composting.

Staatzkanzlei 2
Another shot of the Staatskanzlei this time. This was taken on a night when the moon was nearly full and I wanted to get moon over the building. Unfortunately the architects and the laws of physics conspired against me. The slight blurring of the stars is a result of the 30 second exposure time.17 August 2009
Petanque
The gravel paths of the Hofgarten are home to Munich's petanque players - though I'm never sure if I should call it petanque or boules or something else. In the spring, summer and autumn, often despite the weather, there are always a few groups playing; on sunny days two sides of the garden are lined with players. Quite a few bring tables and chairs, piucnic hampers, crates of beer and bottles of wine and are there for the day.16 August 2009
Memorial
This passage runs alongside the Bavarian Staatskanzlei by the Hofgarten. The dark square object at the end of the passage is a memorial of the passage is a memorial to victims of the Nazi regime with names and quotations carved into a cube of black granite. The smaller stones on top are informal and personal memorials added by passersby.16 June 2009
