Winter Returns

The weather warmed sufficiently last week to melt away the snow. In the last few days temperatures dropped again and the snow returned. This was the scene in Petuel Park this afternoon.

Danger

On the far side of Schloss Nymphenburg the long lake is partially frozen over. Warning signs are posted around but every year people still fall through the ice - if not here on some of the may lakes and waterways across Bavaria.

Lake

I was down by Starnbergersee with a group of photographer friends. We were all taking picutres of the lake as the sun set behind us. I tried to differentiate mine by going for a black and white look. I'm still not sure if it works.

Fence

This is Starnbergersee, to the south of Munich by the small town of Tutzing. I saw this old fence jutting out into the lake.

Roseninsel

Rose Island, just off the cost of Starnbegersee was a favourite retreat of Ludwig II of Bavaria. The small island has a landscaped park, a villa and a rose garden. Today it is owned by the Bavarian state and a small ferry takes toursits to the island.

Riem Park

A view of the flat expanses of Riem park in the east of the city. It's built on the site of the old Munich airport and seems to have been designed to replicate some of the shapes and patterns of an airfield. I have heard some people criticise it for being too uniform butI like itssimplicity.

Ammersee

Ammersee is one of the five lakes lying to the south of Munich that make up Fünf-Seen-Land. The two closest, Amersee and Starnbergersee, can both be reached on the Munich S-Bahn.

The lakes are hugely popular with locals during the summer months and many of Munich's wealthiest citizens have homes on the lake shore. Walking trails circle the lakes and criss-cross the whole region. For those who want to take things easier cruise boats travel the lakes regularly.

This picture was taken from the north end of the lake looking south towards the bavarian alps in the distance. Despite the appearance this shot was taken at 2pm in the afternoon. The blue tone is entirely natural and has not been enhanced at all.

Classic

We stopped in this small village on a visit to the Berchtesgaden area in the south of Bavaria, close to the Austrian border. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of the village, but this is the classic picture to take while visiting. There are even signs pointing you to the best spot to get your picture.
