On another blue sky day I stopped off at Frottmaning to take some pictures of the Allianz Arena, a 69,000 seat stadium built for the 2006 World Cup. It is now home to Munich's two professional football teams, Bayern Munich and TSV 1860 Munich. The outer skin consistes of thousands of the panels you can see in this image. These are made of Ethylene Tetrafluoro-ethylene, are 0.2mm thick - or thin - and the whole thing is kept inflated by fans. Because the panels are translucent the whole stadium can be illuminated at night - red for Bayern, blue for TSV or white. There are lots of superb pictures of the stadium by day and night at the stadium website.
