While it is best known for beer, Oktoberfest also hosts a huge funfair including some very impressive roller coasters.

When the beer, pork, chicken and oxen just aren't enough visitors can always stop off at these little booths where they can supplement the fat and carbohydrates with lots of sugar.

Beer Garden

If you can't or don't want to go inside, most of the tents also have 'beer gardens' attached. These benches from the one of the Paulaner tents are nicely weathered by the sun and the rain.

Beer tents are sociale places. Everyone sits together on benches at long folding tables. Here, a pile of tables waits ready to be set up inside.

Augustiner

Oktoberfest opens on 19 September and for the last few weeks the Theresienwiese has been undergoing a slow transformation from an empty expanse of tarmac to the site of the world's biggest public festival.

Over the next few days I'm going to post some images I took this week of the work going on a the site. Today, the inside of the Augustiner tent, with plenty still left to do, taken through a dirty window.
