Sweet Brown Snail

Balustrade
At the bottom of Prinzregentenstrasse in the Friedensengel - the Peace Angel - standing atop a 23 metre column. The statue commemorates the 25 years of peace that followed the Franco-Prusian war of 1870-71. These stairs lead up to the base of the column.02 September 2009
Walking Man
The Walking Man sculpture stands outside one of Munich Re's many offices in the city on Leopoldstrasse. It was created by American artist Jonathan Borofsky who has created fantastic public scuptures all over the world.18 August 2009
Maximilian
This equestrian statue of Maximilian I, Elector of Bavaria (1573-1651) stands in the centre of Wittelsbacherplatz, a neo-classical city square designed by Leo von Klenze who was court architect to Ludwig I (1786-1868).The model for the statue was created by the Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldson and the statue itself was cast in bronze by local boy Johann Baptist Stiglmaier who was repsonsible for a number of other statues in the city. It was unveiled in 1839.

Dandelion
Before Franz Josef Strauß Airport opened in 1992 the city's airport was at Riem in the east of the city. A comprehensive redevelopment plan for the Riem area was drawn up with the new Munich Exhibition Centres and Trade Fair at its core.The plan also included a new park which was designed by French landscape architect Gilles Vexlard and created between 1997 and 2005. This sculpture stands near the lake. When I first saw it I was reminded of a dandelion ready to shed its seeds. I have been told that it is actually a "multi-directional multi-frequency cubical quad antenna." I'm sticking with my dandelion image.
