One of Munich's finest museums closed down recently for reconstruction and expansion. The Lenbachhaus holds one of the great collections of works by Kandinsky and the Blue Rider group. The final exhibition before closure brought together the Lenbachhaus collection and the extensive Kandinsky collections from the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Guggenheim Museum in New York.

Kandinsky
One of Munich's finest museums closed down recently for reconstruction and expansion. The Lenbachhaus holds one of the great collections of works by Kandinsky and the Blue Rider group. The final exhibition before closure brought together the Lenbachhaus collection and the extensive Kandinsky collections from the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Guggenheim Museum in New York.

Lenbachhaus
The Lenbachhaus is one of Munich's finest museums. The museum has an extensive collection of works by Kandinsky and the Blue Rider group, as well as material by contemporary artists. If you haven't already visited, though, don't get too excited; the Museum closed in March for extensive renovations and isn't scheduled to reopen until 2012.This picture was taken during my first visit to the museum. A number of the rooms displaying the works of the artists of the Blue Rider group are painted in these very strong colours; others have been designed by contemporary artists who have displayed at the Lenbachhaus.
The 'model' just happened to walk into view as I was composing the image and adopted this great pose.
