
The building dates from the late 15th century and was built in the high gothic style. The original design envisaged pointed spires on top of the towers but these were never built and the domes were eventually added around 30 years after the church was consecrated.
The south tower (on the right of this image) is accessible and provide excellent views over the city. Since the picture was taken the north tower has been enveloped in scaffolding for restoration work which has the look of a very long term project.
Like most of Munich's central buildings the church was heavily damaged during the second world war and was gradually restored over the following years.

What a great perspective you give us here. This is just a taste of the entire cathedral and yet it has drama enough to give us a good sense of the flavor, I think.
