The sub-zero temperatures of the last week have frozen the lakes and rivers in Munich even though we have been spared the worst of the snow storms affecting the rest of the country. Every waterway is now a winter sports playground.
In this image the canal that leads to Schloss Nymphenburg (visible here in the background) has been taken over by players of a kind of curling, though I'm not sure what it is called in Germany. The canal is divided into a series of rinks and hundreds of people take to the ice to play.

I passed by this area last year when the players were out but didn't have my camera with me and never got back again. I was determined not to miss it this year.
