On a hazy Munich morning I climbed the 300 steps to the top of the tower of St Peter's church. This is the view looking towards the south. The twin towers on the right are from the Maximilianskirche while the single spire on the left belongs to the Mariahilfkirche.

Is the haze from heat? Looks like a cool fog rolling in but looks can be deceiving.
Not heat. I took this picture on a sunny but cold day in January. After 10 minutes of taking pictures I could hardly move my fingers. It probably is more fog than haze.
Churches still dominate the skyline.
Enlightened planning laws Eamon. The city only allow tower blocks or skyscrapers on the outer suburbs.
There was referendum a few years ago on whether the law should change but the public said no.
I broadly sympathetic - the absence of tower blocks makes the city feel more open, but I also think allowing a small number of high quality, architecturally exciting projects might be worthwhile.
As you say, in the absence of secular towers, the religious towers of the churches dominate the landscape.
Absolutely love this image! Great work!
