
The fountain used to host the 'butcher's leap' when young butchers, having finished their apprenticeships, would dive into the fountain. Today, the fountain is the setting for the annual 'purse washing' ceremony. On Ash Wednesday the Mayor dips a sympbolic empty purse into the water ensuring that the city's coffers will be replenished for the following year.

That's a fantastic picture. I really like Munich (my sister lived there for about 8 years and now lives just outside so I've visited several times).
