Walking Man

The Walking Man sculpture stands outside one of Munich Re's many offices in the city on Leopoldstrasse. It was created by American artist Jonathan Borofsky who has created fantastic public scuptures all over the world.

Great choice for the theme day! I like the sculpture very much, even when it is raining, there are many reflexions, not only on the facade behind but also on the pavement... Cheers! You blog is magnificent - I follow it regullary!

Brilliant framing.

Btw, it looks like his right hand is behind the tree!

Thanks Antonia. Glad you are enjoying the blog. I hadn't realised it was Theme Day - I haven't quite worked out the CDP set up yet. But it is nicely serendipitous.

Steffe - it's not so much where he is walking but how he is walking: from the Munich Re website, "As it strides out, the sculpture gives the impression of striving forward and serves as a symbol for a society geared to performance and dynamism."

Thanks Eamon. By the time I tweaked the perspective his head was just about in the frame.

The trees around are interesting in that they create a whole series of different ways to frame the sculpture. In summer, with leaves on, they provide a whole set of extra dimensions.

Aha, so he is on his way home then.

Really cool photograph. I wonder how the walking man looks at dusk or at night fall?

Thanks again. Luis, it depends on whether he is lit or not. There are lights but they are not always on. It is also affected by whether the people in the office are working late - that adds some nice backlighting. Maybe I will go out some evening and take a few night shots.

That's because it is behind the tree, Eamon. It is 17 metres high:
