Autumn 1

The rain finally stopped and some of the autumn colour survived the downpour. I went for a walk in the English garden a couple of days ago and took some pictures while the sky was clear.

Gliding

Earlier this year we took a trip up to the Alpspitz in the Bavarian Alps and watched the paragliders launching themselves off the mountain. A nice memory of summer - long gone by now.

Candidplatz

Candidplatz, also on U1, is probably the most colourful and decorative station on the entire system.

Wettersteinplatz

Still on U1, this is Wettersteinplatz. This also makes a strong black and white image but I decided to stick with colour.

St-Quirin-Platz

As the rain falls in Munich, it's back to the U-Bahn. This is the St-Quirin-Platz stop on the U1 line.

Just an office building on Prinzregentenstrasse that caught my eye.

Wittelsbach Fountain

Yet another fountain - they are a feature of Munich. By now the water has been turned off in many of them and they have been covered up. Itook this image of the Wittelsbach Fountain in Lenbachplatz a couple of weeks.

Light Art

This installation is on the MEAG building on the Oskar-von-Miller-Ring. The lights on the left change colour from red to orange to yellow to purple in different sequences. It's easy to overlook by day but is very striking by night.

Jesus

This is a from the huge crucifix that stands in the Old South Cemetery in Sendling. The cemetery dates from the 16th century and was originally used to inter plague victims. In later years it was the resting place for many of Munich's notable people - artists, scientists, writers and politicians. Leo von Klenze and Friedrich von Gärtner, who between then were responsible for many of Munich's most notable buildings, are both buried here.

Fountain

Kids playing in the fountain in Karlsplatz. This was taken in July. Now the fountains have been switched off and in a little while the square will be covered with an ice rink.

Sun

This was taken looking back over Tutzing from the lake towards the sun which was a giant golden ball in the sky - something that this image brings out even more.

Lake

I was down by Starnbergersee with a group of photographer friends. We were all taking picutres of the lake as the sun set behind us. I tried to differentiate mine by going for a black and white look. I'm still not sure if it works.

Fence

This is Starnbergersee, to the south of Munich by the small town of Tutzing. I saw this old fence jutting out into the lake.

Ceiling

Part of the ceiling and light fixture from the Maximilian Kolbe church. I was drawn to the geometry of this image - triangles, diamonds, circles, octagons and more.

Autumn

As Autumn rolls in most of the trees around the city just lose their leaves without putting on much of a show. These two, outside an office block in Neuperlach, complemented each other and the building beautifully.

Green

Bright and cheery grafitti on the underside of a bridge. It's much more appealing than the dreary concrete of the structure.

Maximilian Kolbe

Neuperlach, as the name suggests, is a new district of the city. To serve the new residential and business community new churches have also been built. This is the entrance to the Catholic church of Saint Maximilian Kolbe, named for a Polish preist who was murderd in Auschwitz. Nearby is the new Lutheran church, named for Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a Lutheran pastor who was also a victim of the Nazis.

Neuperlach Süd is home to lots of businesses that inhabit shiny modern buildings like this one. This clients here include BSH, a joint venture between Bosch and Siemens making household goods, and Capgemini, an 'IT services and business consultancy company'.

Circus

Neuperlach is a relatively new suburb - all modern apartments and glass and steel business parks. So it was odd to see this bright red and white striped circus tent sitting in a overgrown field in the middle of it all. It looked very run down but there were posters up advertising a forthcoming performance.

Neuperlach Süd

Winter arrived in Munich a few days ago with temperatures close to zero, leaden skies and icy snow flurries. Yesterday morning I took advantage of a few hours of relative brightness to take some pictures. I went to the suburb of Neuperlach Süd, at the end of U5.

This was my first shot of the day - a speculative grabbed shot while the steps were empty. It turned out to be one of my favourites.
