I'd say the results of the experiment were quite satisfactory. Is there really that color difference between the yellow and gray stone?

The contrast in the stonework is not quite asgreatas this. It's partly the lighting and partly the HDR treatment. That said there was a conscious choice on the part of the architect to differentiate the newer section from the older sections on either side.
